Cancer Treatments 6-4-12
Today as I read the newspaper it was like they had just read my speech for the relay. There was a big article about cancer treatments that talked about immune therapy, gene therapy and target drugs that only attack cancer cells. This is what we need as many of us know the terrible side effects of chemo and radiation. As I know now radiation and chemo are responsible for most secondary cancers like Kathryn’s. They also cause things like heart disease, epilepsy, chemo brain, Vision problems, hearing loss, death, and the list goes on and on. That’s after there has been hair loss, weight gain or weight loss to the extreme, immune problems, low blood counts and fatigue. That’s what you get when you put poison into your body.
Then on the news they talked about secondary breast cancer caused by radiation. Wow, is this old news. I think it was 35% of women who had previous treatment (radiation to the chest) for cancer would develop breast cancer. That’s huge! And only 50% of these women get mammograms. I think I got all the numbers correct. Anyhow it is the secondary cancers that are caused by the first treatments that I wanted people to pay attention to. This needs to stop. This is what killed Kathryn.
One doctor did comment that things are happening faster. They use to take 5 to 10 years to get things rolling and now it goes much faster. For us not fast enough. But for those fighting is could be there for them real soon. So, you should never give up! The longer you live the closer they are to a cure.
I also started dinosaur #2 today. The top is done expect the detail. Tomorrow I will probably get the pants done. That is my goal. I don’t know if I will have time to work on it the rest of the week as I need to do some house stuff for guests this weekend. My kids (4 of them) are coming down. I’m looking forward to seeing all of them. Richard and Bee – Mitch (son 2) and Lauren
Found a speech partially written for Kathryn’s spirit award on Saturday. I will just add details to it. This will make it a bit easier.
I slept great last night. Hopefully another good night’s sleep.
Love you all,
