1st Easter W/O 4-8-12
I got up this morning in no hurry at all. I didn’t need to hide the Easter baskets that I had put together the night before. No Richard and no Kathryn searching for their baskets. And because Scott is a gimp right now I didn’t make him search for his basket. I usually hide all of the baskets in the morning because Princess (Kathryn’s dog) will get into them if I hide them the night before. Once the kids and Scott are searching I take pictures of them hunting or what until they find them. I always get a picture of the kids with their baskets but not this year.
Last year or the year before we were at the cabin Easter morning. I brought all the baskets and fixings with me. Richard had a friend spend the night so I made him a basket. He was so surprised to get a basket. The smile on his face was priceless.
I did make a basket for Princess as Kathryn would always do. She loved to watch Princess pull the plastic eggs out and pop them open and devour the treat inside. Once she has all of the eggs out of the basket and all of them open with all of the treats eaten she looks at you as if to say; Are there any more? We all enjoyed watching this every Easter morning. I’m sorry Kathryn and Richard weren’t here to watch Princess.
This morning was strange with no kids around. No reason to rise early. There was no special breakfast like pancakes or waffles. It was one of those firsts without Kathryn. I have more to come. This one was emotional and exhausting. I was so tired by 5pm I fell asleep on the couch for two hours. I just couldn’t move.
We went to my Mom’s house for Easter dinner. It was about 2pm when we ate. All three of my brothers and sister in laws were there along with my two nieces and nephew. Dinner was great and I ate way more than I should have. My Mom and I had filled a bunch of plastic eggs and Julia and Matthew enjoyed hunting for them. It was a very nice time.
After my 2 hour nap I took Princess for a walk. Scott and I worry about her because she is now 13 years old. You look at her sometimes and she looks dead. I was so worried that when Kathryn was going through her radiation that Princess was going to die just when Kathryn needed her to snuggle with. Well she was there for Kathryn. The last two days of Kathryn’s life Princess had climbed up in bed with her. As if she was giving Kathryn her final comfort. Animals know. I’m sure Princess knew that Kathryn was leaving us. After all she slept with Kathryn every night when Kathryn was home. That is years and years of sleeping together.
After the walk Scott and I sat on the front porch and watched the crows fly over. We all liked to watch them fly over. They do this every night. One time in September Kathryn and I were walking and counted about 2000 crows. Richard had counted one time too and got a few thousand.
At 8pm the show Frozen Earth came on. Richard and Kathryn would both love this show. They love animals and nature. I wish they were here watching it with me. I would be snuggling with Kathryn for sure.
